چکیده

The holder of a petroleum exploration concession has an investment option until the expiration date fixed by the governmental agency, in some countries these rights can be extended by additional cost. The value of these rights and the optimal investment timing are calculated by solving a stochastic optimal control problem of an American call option with extendible maturities. The uncertainty of the oil prices is modeled as a mix jump-diffusion process. Normal information generates continuous meanreverting process for oil prices, whereas random abnormal information generates discrete jumps of random size. Comparisons are performed with the popular geometric Brownian process and also the quantification and analysis of alternative timing policies for the petroleum sector. PWP-073 Stochastic Models of Energy Commodity Prices and Their Applications: Mean-reversion with Jumps and Spikes

I propose several mean-reversion jump-di usion models to describe spot prices of energy commodities that may be very costly to store. I incorporate multiple jumps, regime-switching and stochastic volatility into these models in order to capture the salient features of energy commodity prices due to physical characteristics of energy commodities. Prices of various energy commodity derivatives ar...

A Maximal Affine Stochastic Volatility Model of Oil Prices

This study develops and estimates a stochastic volatility model of commodity prices that nests many of the previous models in the literature. The model is an affine three-factor model with one state variable driving the volatility and is maximal among all such models that are also identifiable. The model leads to quasianalytical formulas for futures and options prices. It allows for time-varyin...

Pricing and Hedging of Long-term Futures and Forward Contracts by a Three-Factor Model

This paper shows pricing and hedging efficiency of a three factor stochastic mean reversion Gaussian model of commodity prices using oil and copper futures and forward contracts. The model is estimated using NYMEX WTI (light sweet crude oil) and LME Copper futures prices and is shown to fit the data well. Furthermore, it shows how to hedge based on a three-factor model and confirms that using t...

Stochastic Models of Energy Commodity Prices and Their Applications: Mean-reversion with Jumps and Spikes

In this paper, we present several mean-reversion jump di usion models to describe energy commodity spot prices. We incorporate multiple jumps, regime-switching and stochastic volatility in these models. Prices of various energy commodity derivatives are obtained under each model. We show how the electricity derivatives can be used to evaluate generation and transmission capacity. We also show f...

A Numerical Method for Pricing Electricity Derivatives for Jump-Diffusion Processes Based on Continuous Time Lattices

We present a numerical method for pricing derivatives on electricity prices. The method is based on approximating the generator of the underlying process and can be applied for stochastic processes that are combinations of diffusions and jump processes. The method is accurate even in the case of processes with fast mean-reversion and jumps of large magnitude. We illustrate the speed and accurac...
